As a huge fan of his, I felt inspired to create original artwork for a personal Spotify playlist I created centered around British artist and underground indie rock favorite, King Krule.
With an experimental sound, often being described as a combination of grunge, post-punk, dark jazz, indie rock, and psychedelic - King Krule's sound can be rough, aggressive, and complicated while paired with creative lyrical arrangements often alluding to love, life, and the world.
These elements helped the creation of this concept Spotify playlist: featuring aggressive grains and filters, muted colors, and a loose but calculated composition, as well as hand written lyrics, and contrasting layers.
Upon completion of the cover art, I continued to feel inspired which led to a small collection of vinyl and UI mock ups in order to get a better look at both the KRULE WORLD playlist in use on Spotify and physical renditions.
To accompany the album cover, I created a silver vinyl record with a center label inspired by the colors, elements, and fonts used in the original playlist artwork. As Marshall often favors words like "ooz" in metaphors, this project was subtitled as "a collection of sludge".
